Somewhere between the rolling hills of the Douro Valley and the lively city of Porto, lies this affordable gem of an accommodation, Solar Egas Moniz! Imagine a house on a hill with the coziest accommodations and the sweetest owners, this house was a trophy find!
Solar Egas Moniz offers 10 different suite like rooms, a gourmet homemade breakfast, and during high season they have dinner at the house as well!
Something that made this place unique and different was the “local” feel of it all. Staying in a small city, a beautifully renovated home, with an adorable pool and the kindest family owners, who gave top notch suggestions on places to go and eat, I couldn’t have asked for anything more!
The house really did feel like a home. There is a little library in the reception that you can take some books from and in the summer months you can even rent their bikes to explore the town!
From the moment you walk into the reception area, you will feel inspired. The house has inspirational words and quotes everywhere you look! On the walls, on the staircase, on the pillows, it is the sweetest touch!
We had one of our favorite meals in Portugal at a restaurant about 15 minutes from Solar Egas Moniz called Instituto Plural De Interior! They offered many tapas options, perfectly crafted cocktails, and the best service! I highly recommend their bacon bourbon cocktail! They have a big balcony with live music playing in the summer months. We also had our favorite dessert here. If you’re in the area, you must go!
Something we really loved about the charming house was the location. We were out of the hustle and bustle of the city, but only a short drive away! One morning we woke up and drove to the Douro wine region for some wine tours. Solar Egas Moniz is only 1.5 hours away from the oldest wine region in the world!
Finally, if you are looking for a comfortable, affordable, and convenient option for your accomodations in Porto, Portugal area- choose Solar Egas Moniz!
