If you read my previous Santorini post, you know that my husband and I spent two weeks in the Greek Islands this summer. Our first stop was dreamy Santorini, our next stop was the incredibly underrated Milos- known for her beaches and culture, Milos is truly a hidden gem! So why is Milos so underrated? Milos is much less touristy than Santorini, much cheaper, and probably equally as cool!
Price
Milos is MUCH cheaper compared to Santorini and other islands. We spent 3 nights at Milos Bay Suites. Our room was super cute, had a large balcony, and was run by the nicest staff. The rates for this hotel are usually all under $100 a night. The hotel was located in Adamantas, the port of Milos. Basically when you’re in Milos you should either stay here or in Pollonia. This was a great location as it was right next to the ferries, restaurants, and port!
Getting there?
From Santorini, we took a direct ferry straight into Milos. It was a 2 hour ferry ride and cost $40 pp. If you’re coming from Athens, you can fly directly into Milos as well on either Ryanair, Aegean Air, or Olympic Air. We flew each airline when we were in Greece and found all of them to be great!
Milos Must Do’s
- Go cliff jumping at Sarakiniko Beach
- Eat in Pollonia
- Rent a scooter or ATV and go find as many of the 40+ beaches
- Take a boat ride around the Island
- Visit Kleftiko Beach (only reachable by boat)
- Klima Village
We rented an ATV and headed to our first stop, Sarakiniko beach. This was an adventure lovers dream! This beach is covered in white chalk, stretching for miles with massive cliffs and deep blue waters. We found a group of people jumping off these cliffs, and we obviously had to join them! When you google Milos, this beach probably comes up the most. It deserves all the hype it gets! The best part about Milos is that, though this beach is a “tourist” spot on the island, you wouldn’t know it because nothing on Milos feels touristy. There were probably 25 other people at the beach when we were all diving together from these massive rocks!
Beaches
Where else can I find over 40 beaches, all completely unique and different within a little island? One of my favorite things about Milos is that there is one swimming hole after another. We would get on our ATV and drive a few miles and find another spot to jump in. One of the beaches even had a rope that you had to repel down! After that, go down a ladder to reach the beach!
You can’t find beaches like this all the time. They were truly unique. This island was the perfect combination of peaceful and adventurous!
There are many adorable little fishing villages scattered around Milos. This one in particular is Klima Village, and the best part is there are a few of these traditional fisherman homes that are available on airbnb!
Our favorite thing we did in Milos was go on a sailboat for the day around the island. We went on Boat Oneiro. The owner of the boat is a local greek man who was pretty much the definition of hospitality. He and his wife were wonderful! You can find them on Trip Advisor here! We had the entire sailboat to ourselves and just 10 other people, unlike most of the other boating tours that were catamarans with way too many people. The host brought local wine and ouzo for everyone on the boat, and cooked us fresh octopus and shrimp spaghetti. YUM!
The highlight of this sail was making it to Kleftiko beach. The boat stopped and let us snorkel through the caves, we were mesmerized by all that purple coral that Milos has in their waters! This beach can only be reached by boat and is historically known for being a large pirating area, and for good reason. I was just picturing Pirates of the Caribbean being filmed here!
FOOD
In my last post, I talked about how you must have some lobster linguine in the Greek islands. In Santorini, it cost $90 USD to have a pot. In Milos, it was only $32 for TWO people! Pollonia had some great restaurants and gorgeous views of the water. Milos has a small winery on the island too. You can pay a flat fee to taste the local wines, and they were delicious! There is nothing like sipping a glass of local wine while watching the fisherman come in on their little boats with their fresh catch of the day.
In summary, Milos should absolutely be on your list of must visit Greek islands! It was arguably our favorite of all the islands! While Santorini offers iconic views and is most famously known, sometimes the best part of traveling is finding those hidden gems that not as many people know about!

Wow! The crystal clear waters from white rocks looks absolutely gorgeous. Who wouldn’t want to take a dip in it? I am planning a visit to Greece and will definitely keep this in mind.

Milos is no longer been underrated fortunately. It used to live in the shadows of (iconic) santorini but not any more. Visited Milos two summers in a row, tempted to write a post about it.
